Cutting Threads

Throughout history and across different cultures, women have faced restrictions, not just in their social roles but also in their choice of fashion. This exhibition delves into the dominant fashion trends that have historically constrained women, examining their impact on various facets of life, including social dynamics, biological health, gender politics, and socio-economic conditions. It takes a closer look at three key regions: Europe, East Asia, and South Asia, focusing on specific countries within these regions - England, Spain, France, and Germany in Europe; China and Myanmar in East Asia; and India in South Asia. The  the exhibition aims to highlight how these trends have restricted women, reflecting broader societal norms and expectations of the time.
